Expediting Equipment & Material Selection and Acquisition (EMSA)

Although commonly used materials compose a large percentage of capital projects, the process for selection and procurement consumes considerable amounts of time and is prone to a variety of errors and oversights. This project is focused on streamlining the identification, evaluation, selection, and procurement of commonly used materials and equipment through data-centric, web enabled eCataloging. In addition, this project incorporates provisions for interoperability compliance to a variety of open standards (PIP, HI, ISO-15926, PIDX, AEX, etc.), along with a broad range of 2D and 3D design tool compatibility support. This web environment will be structured to support public access to supplier product information, which is maintained and certified by the product suppliers. In addition, this environment will include provisions for privileged access to private information associated with project needs and other attributes, such as: preferred/approved suppliers; supplier quality reports; usage guidelines, EPC requirements, alerts, usage history; surpluses; project requirements; procurement instructions; delivery performance; tracking, etc. Lastly, this environment will be structured to provide a framework for aggregating material and equipment information associated the as-built configuration to support construction handoff deliverables to operations. This project leverages previous work performed on Fiatech’s Global Valve Cross-Referencing eCatalog (GVCC) project. Valves will be the first in a series of data centric migrations which will take place under this project.

Benefits

This project will reduce cycle time; selection oversights, data errors, entry errors, and experience required for identification, selection, documentation and use, of commonly used materials on capital projects.

Opportunities/Status

This project was launched Q1, 2012 and is in the formation phase. To ensure completeness and viability, stakeholders and SMEs from any Materials Management Enterprise area are invited to participate and/or cosponsor this project projects.
