“Seeing the Future through Predictive Performance Indicators”
Seeing the Future through Predictive Performance Indicators” (FRS-PPI-1) is now available exclusively for Fiatech members, upon login in, click on member documents. The explosive growth in capital project size and complexity has stressed many existing project controls beyond their capabilities. As a consequence, many areas are undergoing critical review directed at increasing project visibility, predictability, and control performance. For example, Advance Work Packaging (AWP) practices have already proven to increase performance by up to 15 percent.

Fiatech members recognize the traditional monitoring techniques such as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) lack the timeliness and fidelity necessary to enable effective, proactive decision making to support the next generation of capital projects. Consequently, Fiatech members launched the Predictive Performance Indicator (PPI) project, with research support from Clemson University, to determine and demonstrate the practical viability in using more sophisticated analytical monitoring and control tools to effectively predict the likelihood of future events that will impact performance. Armed with PPI risk insights, steps can be taken early to prevent or mitigate problems. Fiatech has completed PPI Phase II and is now looking to work with a Fiatech member to facilitate prove out and deployment of this technology. “A Value Driven Holistic Approach to Productivity Improvement Planning”
This comprehensive 85-page guide provides a pragmatic, end-to-end view of the materials management processes and challenges in the capital projects industry. The guide is derived from the subject matter expertise of over 30 Fiatech members representing over 20 organizations spread across the supply network.

The guide provides recognition, insights, and methodologies associated with making economic valuation of sources of inefficiencies categorized by information flow, materials flows, and workflows.  This systematic decomposition of the supply network/enterprise provides the foundation for establishing and prioritizing ROI-driven productivity improvement goals, objectives, and requirements that can be allocated to the appropriate functions and stakeholders. Integrated Materials Management
Current Status: Fiatech asserts leadership in realizing Integrated Materials Management (IMM) and conducted a webinar, “Strategies for Managing Complexity of the Capital Project Industry Supply Network.”

Relevance to the Industry: Over 200 registrants representing more than 100 companies participated in the webinar, focusing on the difficulty in managing materials, equipment, and skilled resources across complex projects utilizing multiple contractors as the primary contributor to project cost overruns and delays. The IMM video link, slides, and eBook are available for review, contact Reg Hunter.

What’s on the Horizon: Further IMM advancement will be part of two sessions at the Fiatech Member Meeting in Philadelphia, PA, on September 29-October 1st. The first will take place in a pre-meeting workshop on Monday morning, September 29, on “Holistic Information and Materials Management” as well as the Procurement and Materials Management Workshop on Tuesday, September 30th.
