Welcome from the Chair

It is a privilege to welcome you to FIATECH's 2007 Technology Conference & Showcase - Where the Best Get Better.

Will Rogers, America's great humorist and philosopher, once cautioned that "even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."  FIATECH's unique focus on sharing and demonstrating emerging technologies that significantly improve the design, construction, and maintenance of large capital assets, will help ensure each attending organization is not only "on track" but is accelerating at full speed.  Indeed, it is FIATECH participants who "overtake, surpass, and run over" those mired in the status quo.

I am confident that the ideas, innovations, and initiatives presented at this year's conference will be instrumental in enhancing every organization's ability to deliver true excellence in design, engineering, construction, and operations.  You need only to absorb, reflect, and share.  Thanks.

Capitol Steps to perform on Wednesday evening, April 11th, in the Conference Hotel.

The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom ("Don't quit your day job!"), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of eighteen Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.

And note that the Technology Showcase coincides with the 2007 National Cherry Blossom Festival in DC, which will last from March 31 – April 15, 2007. Ninety-five years ago, the people of Japan gifted the city of Washington, DC with over 3,000 flowering cherry trees that were then planted around the Tidal Basin. Each spring, the trees bloom with their pink and white-petaled flowers, dropping a rosy cloud around the Jefferson Memorial and throughout Washington. The National Cherry Blossom Festival® (NCBF) was created to honor this spectacular arrival of springtime to our nation's capital and to celebrate the cross-cultural exchange between Japan and the United States. It is an amazing two week celebration and the most beautiful time to visit DC!
