FIATECH Announces Eight New Projects for 2011

AUSTIN, TX, February 11, 2011- At the recent meeting of the FIATECH Board of Advisors held in College Station, TX, eight new projects were approved to start in 2011. These projects are a direct outcome of new ideas submitted by members over the past few months and are aligned and included in the Capital Projects Technology Roadmap.

“Projects are the ‘life-blood’ of FIATECH and we are proud to add these new projects to our already strong portfolio. The Board of Advisors believe that these projects approved at the recent Board Meeting are of significant interest to our membership and the deliverables from them will further demonstrate the value FIATECH brings to its member organizations” explains Ray Topping, director of FIATECH.

DESIGN

  • iRING Tools Interfacing Project–This project will deliver a set of iRING Tools data layer modules that will provide native ISO 15926 and iRING interfaces on key commercially-available engineering design tools. The Board recognized that this project is already underway with many of our members participating and the Board provided endorsement for FIATECH to be a sponsor. CONSTRUCTION

  • Real-time Field Reporting Using Smart Devices–This project will study and test new mobile smart devices (e.g. iPads, Android Tablets, Smart Phones, tablet pcs, Golden-I, etc.) on construction job sites. PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND REGULATORY STREAMLINING

  • Automated Code Plan Checking Tool Proof of Concept–This project will develop a Building Information Model (BIM) checking engine, which will include BIM codes and local amendments translated into an interoperable format. NEW MATERIALS, METHODS AND EQUIPMENT

    • Technologies of Tomorrow–This project will gather a select panel of FIATECH members who will identify and review new products, technologies and innovations that could be applied to the capital projects industry. Annually, the top ranked products will be invited to display and demonstrate their product at the FIATECH Technology Conference & Showcase. This project is seeking individuals with a background and interest in new and emerging technology, materials, trends and systems to participate on this panel.   •  Advancing Asset Knowledge through Augmented Reality Technologies–This project will demonstrate the business opportunities for outdoor and indoor tracking of people and assets as well as the use of augmented reality technology for security, health & safety and operational maintenance of construction sites and operational facilities. INFORMATION EXCHANGE & DATA MANAGEMENT

 

    • ISO 15926 Project Information Flow–This project will  define typical data flows in different types of capital projects, test & validate currently available ISO 15926 tools,  and assist companies in adopting 15926 by highlighting implementation methodologies & approximating achievable savings.     • Product Life Cycle Management XML–This project will document recommendations for opportunities, applications, and work flows for utilizing PLMXML in various industries and applications.
